2015 Potts Newsletter July

July 2015 - Potts Newsletter

2015 July
FAMILY
3- We hosted a breakfast at our house.  Mom, my sister Cindy, Trisha and family and Cindy and family came.  Afterwards we went to the movies.  Mom and I got to watch Cokeville, an inspirational film about the miracles that happened during the shooting at cokesville.  The others watched Jerasic park or inside out. Fun.
4- We enjoyed spending the 4th with Cindy and the boys.  We lit some fireworks in front of the house then went to Murray High to enjoy the big fireworks.
5- Cindy and family came to dinner then we played UNO.
7- Divit rolled in the poop…again.  I bathed her…again.
19- Koda and his fiancé Theanine came to go to church with us and stayed for dinner at Cindys.  It was a great dinner.

TRIP TO ST. GEORGE AND CEDAR CITY
Mom and I left early Wednesday morning.  We drove to Cedar City and enjoyed visiting and enjoying the kids.  We got lunch ready then had a picnic at the cemetery.  The kids also helped me make a happy birthday to Adiaha and Nathan.  After that we drove the rest of the way to St. George.  We had soups for dinner and got to bed early.
Thursday morning we went to the St. George Temple to do initiatory work.  Next we went to visit Uncle Fred and Aunt Sandra.  Next we met Heidi and Cindy and the kids at the Children’s Museum (so much fun) and we sent out for lunch at the lunch box.  It was lots of fun.  We went back to mom’s place and had a nice siesta, worked on our talks (I am speaking for Ireland’s baptism, mom is speaking at church.)
Friday included dinner with Joann and many errands
Saturday mom and I started out to Ireland’s baptism and almost completely ran out of gas.  There wer two angels (one man and one woman) who gave us enough gas to get to Cedar.  Thank you Father.  It was Ireland’s baptism, a beautiful service.  I felt honored to give a talk on the Holy Ghost.  They then had a birthday party in the neighborhood park including an 18 foot water slide!  They had a wonderful sandwich bar after the services and Cindy made an amazing Barbie cake!  They also had a piñata for the kids to whack at. Dan drove down for the day and we all left around 4:00. Trisha and her family came too.

July 24th - 4 tune left early to take the sailboat out.
Dan took the boat out and took a lot of kids on the couch-tube.  We also enjoyed Terry's entertainment.  It was so much fun to see Jackie and little Mccall Dancing.  One of the favorite songs was the DUCK TAPE song! :)
July 25- More skiing and boating and sailboating.  We had a scary moment when Parker got stuck under the knee board and Darrin jumped in to rescue him.  We also enjoyed watching Spencer go kneeboarding (on Darrin's back).  Later on Trisha and Darrin went sail boating.  They had a great time till the boat capsized and they were pulled into shore.  That took a bit of work to haul it out of the water.  Dan and I left around 3:00.  Another tense time happened with everyone cleaned up and returned to Burtons only to discover that Michael was nowhere to be found.  They nearly called Search and Rescue to go after him.

DAN
Dan and I had the chance to bring dinner into Darla and Doug and help them move things back into their study and Living room where they redid the floor. After that we got to help clean at the church for an hour or so

26- Long walk with Dan
28- Dinner at the Ridge with a friend and former neighbor, Nancy.

12- Mom gave a talk in church.  I got to go and hear it.

13- Helped Cindy at her school
14- I was rather nervous when I had to go in for a breast diagnosis but it turned out to be 3 cysts.  Yay!  Mom and I went to lunch at Taco Time then over for a free rolling bed massage in the afternoon.  It was fun. I also got some deeper house cleaning done.  At night I went to Joshua’s birthday dinner at Panda.

18- Dan and Michael went fishing at Wall Lake. I got to go to a family history seminar.  It was excellent!
21- Shopping with mom for the Idaho trip, visit teaching Katie, working on finances for the rental loan, watching Trisha’s kids while she goes to the temple.
22- I helped Cindy at her school.  Burton bought a sailboat in Salt Lake and we hauled it to Idaho!!
26- Mom and I went to Cindy’s school to help her get ready for parents to come tomorrow. Mike came too and helped her with her classroom.
30- Relief Society committee meeting, making candy bouquets, going to Koda's go away party.
I am thankful for timers on hoses (you wouldn’t believe how many times I have left it on for hours, for juicy watermelon, for amazon packages, for having good endings on audiobooks and for flip flops.  Thanks Father.
I am thankful for this Independence Day.  I am thankful for the earrings mom made me, for the discussion Dan and I had about the candidates for the US, for the documentary we watched by Dinesh D'Souza, for the freedom to pray, to work, to speak, to worship and to choose my daily activities.  We are so blessed.  Thank you Father.

I am thankful for the fun of playing games like UNO as a family, for the chance to get together for Sunday dinners, for pictures on Facebook, for cell phones that let us sing Happy birthday to our grandkids like Ireland, for the sweet excitement in her voice when she invited me to go her birthday party and asked me if I would go on an 18 foot water slide with her!!  Thanks Father.
I am thankful that Dan’s colonoscopy went well, that I could finally get Divit cleaned us. I am thankful that I am mostly packed to go to Cedar and St. George tomorrow and that Dan and I can take Tiarra to Oklahoma at Hale center in August and thankful that I can take a nap before going to the Priston to speak with kerri. Thanks Father.
I am thankful that I saw a humming bird today for the 3rd time this season, I am thankful the hot tub will be ready for the grandkids by tomorrow, that our daughters are so willing to help each other, that Cindy made good progress in her classroom today and that I got to have Costco's Chicken Bake for dinner!

I am thankful for a hose that can quench my flowers thirst.  I am thankful Joseph planted sunflowers in my little garden, that Trisha fed me lunch and cut my hair and creates beautiful pictures of those around her.  I am thankful for progress on the budget, chances to serve and feelings of gratitude and ice water.

I am thankful for the chance to serve and help, for the incredible chance to take a nap when I’m tired.  I was reminded of so many blessings I have when speaking to the women in prison last night: a chance to bathe, to write when I want to, to pray out loud to trust others, to feel the freedom of choosing what I do with my time. And hearing music I want to when I feel like it and play my guitar and hug my hubby.  Father, please bless those women.
I

29- Tiff said she gets to move to a new and better community!!!

Trisha
1-     Trisha shared some really neat stories about girls camp.  Some funny others powerful. One was about an elder who was kidnapped in Haiti.  Another story was about a woman who does makeup for the movies.  She described how much work it took to get the perfect picture.  It tok a 2-4 hour makeup session, million dollar lighting, thousands of pictures (sometimes 12 hours),
2-     someone to select and then touch up work.  She asked who wanted to volunteer to have the perfect picture.  After that she said they would need the best lighting (the Son), a clean face (repentance), eyes (an eye single to the glory of God), cheeks (turn the other cheek) and lips (speak no evil). After that she divided the group into 2 by their birthdays.  She put on soft music and had half the group close their eyes.  She called one group lavender the other rose.  She had the lavenders think of something they wish someone would say to them “you’ve beautiful or you’re awesome just the way you are etc.”   She then had the rose group whisper their message to each of the lavenders and then had the lavenders do the same.  Trisha said it was SOOO powerful, spiritual and life changing.
3-     Darrin, thank you for helping us get our Chromecast going again!.......................................
4-     14- Last week Trisha did an amazing job on taking pictures of the birth of Marta’s baby boy!

Now you will receive the Holy Ghost to stay with you to help you all the time if you will obey…what is the difference?
1.      It won’t just come and go. It will stay if you do your part
2.      Stronger and brighter (2 flashlights, Like look in sky vs. Nephis liahona (ask Heidi)…………..as you grow your ability to recognize his voice and promptings will grow if you obey.

Outline for Ireland’s Baptism about the Holy Ghost
·        Grateful I got to speak
·        Holy Ghost brings many things to our lives. I will share 3

Hello Elder ______,
This morning I was listening to Elder Nelsen’s talk about the Sabbath day.  I guess I try to make everyday “the day of the Lord”, I try to serve him in whatever I do but I can tell Elder Nelsen means something more.  Our bishop has choen the Sabbath day as our theme for July so I want to try harder to understand and obey.  I sure could do better on the family history side of things.
Beauty can immerge
The other day I noticed that a plant in my cactus garden began to grow a thing that looked like horns and then like green candy canes!  At first thought I should pluck them out because they were weird looking.  I asked a friend what she thought I should do.  She said that maybe that was my plants way of flowering.  Within a week I found out that she was right!  Tiny pink flowers came from what I first thought was ugly.  I find analogies all over in nature and this one was another reminder that when we think something is bad sometimes it turns to be good.
Our former Bishop had a facial difference.  One side of his eye and cheek drooped.  When I think of him in my mind I rarely think of his deformity.  It became a beloved feature of a beloved man.  What comes to my mind is his kindness, his charity, the way he gave our son a job, the way he expressed his love and gratitude for all people. .  I remember how much our daughter, Trisha, loved to make him cookies because he made her feel like she had given him a priceless gift. My neighbor has two dear friend who were afflicted and often made fun of.  She said “Once I got to know them I no longer even thought of their differences, only the goodness of their souls
I’m sure at the time it happened, his facial changes were thought of as a tragedy but oh how beautifully he flowered, how deeply he has touched we all have weird things happen.  Some temporary, some permanent.  For 18 months of my life I was handicapped and lived in and out of a wheelchair.  Although it was difficult I learned many things about empathy and love.  Often when we are struck with physical disabilities we may feel out of place, even ugly, but I believe that as we continue to hold to “the rod” beauty will eventually immerge.

OUTLINE FOR TALK AT IRELAND’S BAPTISM

SIGNIFICANT TEMPLES
In Relief Society we were challenged to think of the temples that are significant to us.  Here goes:
·        Salt Lake Temple: where we were married and Joseph was sealed to us
·        The Jordan River Temple: Where I used to take our girls and their friends to do baptisms for the dead.  Where I served for about a year in the baptismal area.  I also served 1 year as a temple ordinance worker
·        Manti: Where Mom performed many baptisms and she was married.  I have also attended a few times.
·        Oquirrah- Closest to Cindy’s house.  I’ve been able to go with Kalli and Tiarra to do baptisms.

Quotes:
Elder Bednar: Godly fear is loving and trusting in Him…perfect love casteth out fear
“What sign do I want to give to God?”

POTTS NEWSLETTER JUNE 2015
FAMILY
FISH LAKE
Wednesday morning Darla and Doug drove to our house to leave for Fish lake.  I drove my car with Darla to the lake and we hung around for half an hour before the guys appeared and we went to the lodge for lunch.  Darla and I packed most everything then took it into the BEAVER place.  It has 2 rooms, a kitchen and living room.  The guys went fishing in the boat while Darla and I took a rest then did some guitar songs and writing. The guys caught 26 fish and brought home 8!!!
Thursday morning the guys went to fish again.  I worked on organizing our pictures.  They came in at lunch time.  After lunch we drove to Capital Reef to the visitors center and see the many formations.  After that Dan treated us to ice cream cones then back to our place for resting and dinner.  Today they caught 14 fish and brought 5 home!!
Friday
Today the guys caught about 14. They went fishing 3 times. In the early afternoon Doug, Dan and I went for a walk and I got pictures of deer.   At night we had a double date playing Mexican train and Darla taught us how to water color.
Saturday
We woke up late then we all went fishng. Darla and I each caught 2 fish on our morning run.  The guys went out more and caught about 10 each and released them.  I got things packed up and Darla and I went for a nature walk. Big and scary thunderstorm coming home.  Andrew was here and we watched Merlin with him before Josie and David arrived.
A TRAGEDY!! A TRIP TO CALIFORNIA
My cousin Brad, from California, was backing up his vehicle to hitch it to a trailer when their little granddaughter rode her bike behind the vehicle and was killed as he backed up.  Sue, his wife, was  watching her and because they lived on a Ranch she thought she would be perfectly safe riding around.  What a tragedy, what a hurt heart for my dear cousins.
By Saturday Mom and I had packed up and we flew to Vacaville to be with my cousin Brad and his wife Sue to help.  We were blessed going there because we were waiting at our assigned gate A2 till it was nearly time to board.  Still there was no ticket agent or sign indicating any change.  Just by chance we went looking and discovered they were boarding at gate A6!!  We never want to fly with American Airlines again!!  We bearly made our connection!
We arrived in Sacramento in the afternoon and Jenae and Brad (cousins) picked us up and took us to the ranch.  John gave up his room so we could have a place to sleep and then we learned more about the accident.  It was so terribly sad.  His track was a disel and it was high and loud so there was no way he had any warning before the accident happened.  L
Over the next 5 days mom and I took over preparing meals (including German pancakes) gathering pictures of little Gianna (6 years old) from Sues computer and both of their cell phones for the slide show at the funeral. We met numerous friends and family.  We got to know and love her through the pictures and know and love Brad and Sue more.  Mom also helped me as I worked on a book called “Gianna came from Heaven.”  I hope to finish it by the 20th and have it to them by the first of July.
There were quiet talks around the table and on the back patio, nice walks down Beck lane, taking pictures, talking to the goats, enjoying the birds and being introduced to baby birds in the tree and a baby bunny  as well.  This family loves water sports, motorcycles and especially fishing.  Gianna lived a lot of life in her short life and was loved deeply.  I like what one woman said at her service.  She quoted from the book “All I ever needed to know I learned in kindergarten.”  She had just finished kindergarthen.  I guess she learned all she needed to know then went home to Heavenly Father.  The rest of us are still learning.
My cousin, Jackie, was sweet and bought mom and I dresses from the thrift store so we could wear pink at the services like everyone else since Gianna’s favorite color was pink.  Jackie and Terry were kind enough to take us to the airport.  There was another mix up with the gate but this time we had a fellow travelor alert us.  This time we rode the cart to the right gate.
Dan dropped us off and picked us up.  Thanks Honey.

-        This was Joshua’s birthday date.  I took him and mom to the zoo (Leah’s treat) and we saw Burton and 6 of his kids there!  On the way taking Joshua back home I went a tiny bit too fast and gut a ticket!! Bummer!
9- Got groceries, helped mom with her garage, meeting with Kerri, Oscar night for Relief Society.  I got to serve
10- visiting Connie Plott, doing office stuff.
11- I spent much of my day working with mom to choose a way to get to California to be with Brad and his family.  I was thankful also for my time with Darla (I had her over for lunch and we knelt to pray for Brad and family) also with my friend Gwendolyn.  She gave me a foot rub and helped me add a plant to a planter outside….such a blessing.  I also somehow got the stationary bike to the deck with lots of prayer

It has been a while since I have written in my grateful journal yet I have been so blessed.  I have been extra busy but that is no excuse.  I am grateful I could see deer at Fish Lake, grateful for an afternoon with friends, for learning how to cook spinach greens (yum), grateful for the chance to share with neighbors, for knees that work, for peppermint oil that helps with my head, for googles help with my canker sore, grateful I didn’t hurt myself bad when I accidently walked into the shower glass and grateful that part of my plant survived when it didn’t have enough water.  I am grateful for how forgiving my heavenly father is and grateful for family and the chance to fly with mom to California to help during my cousin’s tragedy.

I am sooo thankful that I finally got through the cheapoair maze to get my boarding pass.  After 7 phone calls, numerous computer attempts and more than one “grrrrr!!” I never plan on going with them for an airplane ticket again.  I am also thankful that my grandson found our ipad.  It was in a strange place.  I thought I had lost it for good.  I don’t know how it got there. Although they weren’t huge deals they both of these experiences were tough it sure feels like a big relief to be past them.

21- The problem in my right eye is cellutitus.  The doctor put me on oral antibiotics and antibiotic drops
23- Rough morning.  I felt so tired, eye still itched, got Dan’s car registered, went to register it and I had to go to a different location.  I got a ticket on my way there!  Stopped to visit Connie, my v.t. lady who has cancer.  I came home exhausted to rest.

25- I went to traffic school and learned a lot such as:
Park 15 feet away from fire hydrants, 30 feet from stop signs
200 pts traffic violations before your license is suspended
5 over speed  35pts.

10 on interstate = no points. No report to insurance
Left turn you get ticket even if if other car went on red
Registration paper signed or you can get a ticket
You can talk on the phone but don’t manipulate phone wholes driving
No Seat belt? - citation,  ticket, fees

Seat belt- put it on before you turn on car
28- Suffering from a raging yeast infection caused by an antibiotic from my eye problem.
29- helping Cindy at her school
30- helping mom at her house

After getting a speeding ticket in a speeding trap I slumped into a negative slump then as I pulled into a parking lot I found a good parking spot and decided to try to turn things around (after I cried about my 2nd ticket in a month).  One: a good parking spot, Two: I don’t have cancer like my friend does, Three: I’m thankful that I could call my daughter and cry on her shoulder, Four: I was able to take a rest in my hammock, Five: my eye isn’t all swollen.

I am thankful I have a happy feeling right now instead of anxiety, I am thankful for the memories I cherish from watching three grandsons, I am thankful for when we pretended to go fishing (they each caught alligators) and when I climbed the tree a little ways (I had to prove I still had it in me), I am thankful for the sound of the furnace, the way the sun goes to bed at night and the emails I read from my nephew on his mission. Thanks Father.

I am thankful for 2 strangers who jump started my car and for auto zone who were willing to install a new battery (Thanks Eadger).  I am thankful for kind people at the bank and for feeling progress today! Thanks Father.

Getting a ticket for speeding in a 35 mph zone was hard but I decided to stick to the speed instead of “going with the flow” this morning.  I pulled over when a guy was tail ending me.  It felt so good to see him speed away!

I am thankful for the flag we received that honors dad Potts service. I am thankful we have water in the hose to let down the dry areas in our lawn, I am thankful for clogs that are so easy to wear on my feet, I am thankful for fun audio books that support Christian values, I am thankful to feel better after physical challenges, I am thankful that I have a computer and a cell phone and that I could walk in the grass today and feel the Sun on my face. Thank you Father
